SCHOOL
Sancta Maria College was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1920 and it is the first co-education Secondary School in Ireland. The school has very good results.
There are approximately 600 students enrolled. Students are from Louisburgh , Westport , Clare Island and Inish Turk.
The school is 5 minutes away from the house our students are getting the bus to school every day.
Sancta Maria College host around a 100 international exchange Students every Year from across the globe.​

COURSES' INFORMATION

Transition Year (TY)
Age group: 14 - 16
Transition Year is an optional one-year school programme that can be taken in the year after the Junior Certificate in Ireland.
The year focuses on many non-academic subjects, such as life skills including first aid, cooking, self-defense, driving and typing. A lot of sport goes on as well.

5th Year
Age group: 16-18
Fifth year is the first year of the Leaving Certificate cycle. This year requires students to work more independently and requires more responsibility than in the Junior Certificate cycle. This is the second last year in their schooling.

6th Year
Age group: 17-18
Sixth year is the second year of the Leaving Certificate cycle. This year is the final year of Irish secondary school. Students in this year are sitting their Leaving Certificate.
Sixth year can only be accessed after successfully completing 5th year.

Walks to the Beach
Old Head Beach is a 10 minutes walk away from the house.
It's a nice and beautiful place to go for a walk.

Gym
It's a small local Gym, not very crowded but a nice place to spend a couple of hours after school or during the weekend to keep fit.

Music School
It's also a small Music School, but a very nice place for those music lovers.
They teach Piano, Music Theory, Irish Flute, Classical Flute and Singing Lessons.

Horse Riding Stables
The Stables are in Murrisk, 10 minutes away from the house by car.
They offer riding lessons and Treks to the beach.

Westport is a seaside town, it has a greenway for walking, with a cinema, lots of lovely cafés and a public swimming pool.
It's a 30 minutes drive by car from the house.

Castlebar is a bigger town with lots of shops, cafés, bowling alley and a cinema.
It's about a 40 minutes drive from the house.

Galway
Galway is small city with lots of shops, big and small, cafés.
It's an old city with lots of historical places to see.

Dublin
Dublin is the capital city of Ireland, it boasts lots of museums and places of historical interest to visit.
